Product Description

The Oaked Traditional Mead from Sap House Meadery is part of their exclusive Barrel Series. The only description about the mead on the bottle says simply “Other than standard mead.” There doesn’t seem to be any other description than this cryptic text – which is fine for this one since its pretty straight forward… Traditional mead aged in oak barrels. It pours a translucent golden color with no carbonation, so taking the picture right in front of a wood windowsill the exact color was probably not the best idea. The aroma is mostly mild floral with some sweet apple fruitiness. The taste was solid – sweet, but not too sweet. Coming in at 15.6% alcohol, it was very well balanced. The oak aging seems to have rounded it out nicely. The oak flavor was however very slight, and not present at all in the nose. I would’ve liked it to some through a little more. It tastes quite fruity – like a sweet white wine with grape and apple flavors. It would’ve been nice to get a little more of a description on the bottle – What type of oak and how long was it aged for? What type of honey was used? Also, I feel like the design of the label could’ve been adjusted slightly to differentiate the “Barrel Series” from the standard lineup. As it is now, at a quick glance on the liquor store shelf, I wouldn’t know it was a special barrel aged offering. Good sipping mead though, definitely enjoyable.
