      All about Rhone blend

      What is Rhône blend?

Rhône blend wine is a wine blend made from grapes grown in the Rhône Valley in France. Just like Bordeaux blends, Rhône blends are famous all around the world. Rhône grapes can create singular varieties, but winemakers make blends with them because these grapes have their natural counterparts. If a grape variety is full-bodied but low acidity, another grape variety will be the complete opposite, making the perfect pair for blending. Since Rhône Valley is warm, these grapes can bear high temperatures. This allows the wine to survive hot regions as well. Winemakers add many grapes in a Rhône blend, but some are more common than others.

      Rhône blend flavors

The most common grape varieties in a Rhône blend are syrah, grenache and mourvèdre. This blend is popular for its age-worthiness and complex fruit flavors. Winemakers produce this blend throughout the world. It's a full-bodied wine blend that has medium to high tannins. With medium acidity and medium sweetness, this wine is rich with flavors. Since it's a blend of different red wine types, you can pair it with many dishes, especially with foods with Mediterranean herbs and spices like sage, rosemary, olives and red pepper. It's a bold aromatic wine that's one of the top wine blends and is worth exploring.

      Rhône blend characteristics

There are a minimum of 19 grape varieties used to make Rhône blend wines. This blend gets complexity when a boisterous and fruity grape blends with peppery and brooding ones. Australia is one of the prominent places where winemakers create this blend. Other places where this blend is common are Spain, South Africa and the United States. Depending on the grapes, Rhône red blend wine can be meaty, rustic and elegant. It often has floral overtones. When it ages in oak, the wine blend can be creamy. It can be a good table wine with herbal aromas.
