If you've never heard of Lambrusco wine, you're not alone. It's one of the lesser-known varieties of red wine but is easily classified as a hidden gem. It can range from a sparkling wine to a red with a light fizzy quality. Hailing from the Bronze Age, this sweet red wine originates from northern Italy but can also be found in Argentina and Australia today.
Are there different types?
There are four main types of Lambrusco. The first is lLmbrusco grasparosa, which is the boldest of the four varieties of Lambrusco red wine and carries the fruity flavors of blueberries and black currants with dry tannins. It also has the deepest red color. The second is Lambrusco salamino, which has a similar color to the Grasparossa variety. It is sweet and creamy to balance out the tannins, and wine lovers can expect to taste floral violets or sweet cherries.
The third type is Lambrusco di Sorbara, which is the lightest variety of the bunch. Often the most refreshing variety, flavors of fruits and florals can be tasted when it comes to this pink sweet Lambrusco, even with the dry tannins. Lastly, the fourth type is called Lambrusco Maestri. Milk chocolate is an undertone of this particular variety with more of a grape flavor to it.

Italian lambrusco can range from sweet to semi-sweet to dry depending on the sugar content and tannins.
