The big achievement of Giacomo Bologna lies in what he has dreamed, realized and the projects that he stimulated in his descendants. Among Giacomo’s greatest dreams was the desire of purchasing an entire vineyard block in Rocchetta Tanaro called ‘MONTEBRUNA’, a vineyard site very characteristic for the region of the Monferrato Astigiano. The soil is composed of equal proportions of sand and clay, the so- called ‘impasto misto’ and creates wines of intense perfume and density. This very land, once owned by the noble family Marchesi Incisa della Rocchetta, was sold off and split between many wine growers. The heritage of this characteristic site can still be traced in the ruins of the cottage, one time occupied by the Marchesi and named Montebruna. Giacomo who passed away in 1990 at a relatively young age, left his son with the desire to accomplish the father’s dream. Giuseppe was able to resume the negotiations and to acquire with patience and tenacity the majority of the land in just 7 years. To produce a traditional style of Barbera aged in big Slavonian oak barrels between 2000 and 5500L was unquestionable! Montebruna 2009 is of intense ruby colour with purple hints. The nose is pronounced and youthful. Austere fruit flavours of sour cherry, black currant and elderberry are spiced by black pepper notes and softened by hints of violet. The palate is of a traditional rustic and nervy style. The crisp acidity lends sapidity and structure to the wine. Delicate fresh fruit flavours are underlined by smoky notes , dark chocolate and sweet floweriness. The low tannins are ripe and very well integrated. The wine leaves a fresh sensation. ‘Montebruna’, a land that speaks!View all products by BraidaCalifornia Residents: Click here for Proposition 65 WARNING
