The Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Black Label Claret is a well-loved and popular favorite in the Francis Coppola portfolio. Director of Winemaking and General Manager, Corey Beck lead the organization to be an industry leader in California wine making while also creating wineries with a outstanding sense for entertainment and fun. He has grown the operation to produce eleven different brands all of which show us the quality and style of excellence we have grown to expect from California wines. To create premium wines on a global scale Corey Beck has proven committed to keeping positive and mutually beneficial relationships with more than 150 growers, all of which contribute to his popular wines.
So what is Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Black Label Claret? Well don't let the term Claret throw you off, that is just the British term for a Cabernet Based wine typically made in the style of Bordeaux France. Therefore, we have a very traditional and time-proven blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Petit Verdot, 4% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc (Correct for 2015 vintage). Grapes are sourced from all over California, though the 2015 vintage was mostly comprised of fruit from Solano, El Dorado, and Lake Counties. These appellations feature volcanic soils and are higher in elevation. All of these different grapes bring a different strength and nuance to create a wine of power and elegance. The wine spends a year in French Oak to smooth out its edges and add smooth toasty vanilla notes.
The Francis Coppola Diamond Collection Black Label Claret is like plush velvet on the palette, with ripe supple tannins. Incredible intensity of flavor with red and black fruits, toasty vanilla spice, and blooming violets balanced with subtle hints of bell pepper and anise.
