Segura Viudas began producing sparkling wines in 1959, but it was not until 1969 when it began to market those wines. In the early 1980's the estate was purchased by the Ferrer Family as it was known for its high quality cavas and still wines and it fit perfectly in the Freixenet family portfolio. Throughout its history Segura Viudas has continually used the most modern winemaking technology to craft the highest quality Cava's that to this day remain highly lauded and truly enjoyed across the globe.
Segura Viudas handcrafts distinctive, artisan méthode champenoise sparkling wines. While steeped in rich Spanish heritage, Segura Viudas modern winemaking creates sophisticated yet approachable cava's that are just waiting to be discovered.
Gabriel Suberviola oversees winemaking for the Segura Viudas winery in Spain. Acknowledging the evolution of his winemaking philosophy over the years, Gabriel greatly emphasizes the importance of terroir in cultivating indigenous varietals. Gabriel's philosophy is rooted, in the vines and he admits to learning new lessons each harvest that improves his viticultural techniques.
Grapes from the indigenous white varieties – Xarel•lo, Macabeo and Parellada, form part of the soul of Segura Viudas cavas. Suberviola adds that “the indigenous grapes of our region are at the heart of our creations, and added to a meticulous selection of vineyards and grapes, allow us to offer up cavas with their own identity that are just asking to be discovered".
