Drizly Expert Notes

Weihenstephaner Original is a German classic Munich Helles coming in at 5.1%. The beer pours in a crystal clear golden straw appearance. The aroma offers a depth of grainy malts and crackers with fresh grass and hints of citrus from the Noble hops. Upfront on the flavor, a medium sweet white breadiness introduces the tongue with a gentle hop bitterness at 21 IBUs. Refreshing play of the sweet malts, lively hop character, and a medium minus refreshing mouthfeel makes this one of the best lagers to have in your fridge during the summer, or all year.

Munich Helles (or translated as Munich “Pale") is a pale lager based out of a famous Southern German brewing city created to compete with Pilsner-type beers that were becoming ever so popular in the late 1800s. In comparison to the more bitter and highly hopped German Pils style, Munich Helles has a more rounded flavor of pilsner malt, while holding back on hop character. A great introduction to 100% malted barley lagers, Weihenstephaner Original is the perfect answer to those entering craft beer who find pilsners to be too hop forward and bitter.

Weihenstephaner Original is gentle and friendly to pair with salad, chicken, and stews.
