How to make the Sparkling Hibiscus Bourbon Sour by Elliot Clark, aka @apartment_bartender.

"Juneteenth commemorates the hardships endured and overcome by Black people (and a part of my family) that’s come before me. It’s also a day of empowerment, and as a Black creative & POC, I find purpose in expressing myself through my craft, and creating a great drink experience for y'all as well as my friends + family. This Juneteenth cocktail is a Sparkling Hibiscus Bourbon Sour featuring Black-owned Uncle Nearest, hibiscus syrup, lemon juice and more!"

You'll need:

  • 2 oz. Uncle Nearest Premium Small Batch Whiskey
  • 3/4 oz. hibiscus syrup
  • 1 oz. lemon juice
  • 5-6 mint leaves
  • 2 oz. sparkling water

Steps:

  1. In a collins glass, combine 5-6 mint leaves, hibiscus syrup and lemon juice, and gently muddle the mint.
  2. Add in the spirit, and top with ice.
  3. Add in your sparkling water, top with more ice, and garnish with a bouquet of mint and dried hibiscus flowers.

How to make the Jubilee Punch by Tiffanie Barriere, aka @thedrinkingcoach.

"Slavery may have ended in 1865, but the message of freedom wasn't delivered until years later to Black people due south of Houston in Galveston, Texas. The celebration that followed was a ceremony filled with music, food and ‘red drink’  which was a punch made with hibiscus flower, sweetener, citrus, fruit, herbs, and often alcohol.”

You'll need:

  • 3 3/4 cups Sorel Artisanal Liqueur
  • 1 1/4 cups Ten to One White Rum
  • 1 1/4 cups lemon juice
  • 1 1/4 cups pure cane syrup
  • 10 cups Earl Stevens Sparkling Watermelon Wine
  • Assortment of berries for garnish

Steps:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add cane syrup and lemon juice, whisking slowly to incorporate.
  2. Add Ten to One White Rum, Sorel and your favorite berries and whisk slowly.
  3. Allow to sit for up to 1 hour.
  4. Transfer into a large punch bowl with large dense ice and sparkling wine.
  5. Ladle and serve in a punch glass or wine glass over fresh ice. Garnish with an assortment of berries.
