Because isn't that the whole point?
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale began as a home brewer’s dream, grew into an icon, and inspired countless brewers to follow a passion of their own. Its unique piney and grapefruit aromas from the use of whole-cone American hops have fascinated beer drinkers for decades and made this beer a classic, yet it remains new, complex and surprising to thousands of beer drinkers every day. It is—as it always has been—all natural, bottle conditioned and refreshingly bold.View all products by Sierra Nevada
Ask 100 brewers what their favorite beers are and around 90 of them will likely say Sierra Nevada Pale Ale within their first three. The other 10 brewers apparently don't really like drinking beer. This beer is a classic. It is the prototypical American style pale ale. It has been around for over thirty years! Ya, thirty years wouldn't sound very old if it were your college professor telling you their age, but in the world of craft beer, this is basically as ancient Greece. This beer is Plato. It is Aristotle. It is Socrates! If anyone knew what was going through the minds at Sierra Nevada those thirty plus years ago, we would bottle it up just like this beer and serve it all day long as this hop forward California pale ale is gorgeous.
Poured into a glass, should you choose, the beer is a coppery gold color. Crystal clear, with a luscious white head. The aroma is slightly floral and exploding with spice and citrus. Think California oranges topped with earthy pine and the grass from your very own front yard, all balanced by a biscuity caramel malt sweetness. The flavor is dominated by hop citrus, lemon peel, orange rind, fresh cracked white pepper, and just a touch of caramel, just enough for balance, not for sweetness. The finish is bitter, but not overly so, just enough to bring your mouth back for a bit more. The carbonation is spot on. A mouthfeel that is light and refreshing, scrubbing the palate as you suck the bottle down.
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale is one of the pinnacles of beer making. There is a reason it has been around for so long and pretty much created a particular style of beer. Perhaps best paired with a literal hike through the Sierra Nevada mountain range, it can be equally enjoyed with a grassfed steak, grilled to a perfect medium rare, accompanied by honey roasted carrots, and a bit of buttery mashed potatoes. Or just have it with a bag of your favorite chips and a slow moving baseball game, something that allows you to enjoy a few in one sitting.
