In 1992 we hired David Abreu to oversee the vineyards at Neyers. Dave hadn’t achieved the fame he enjoys today, but there was clearly something special about his approach to grape growing. Our Merlot had begun to produce a crop by then, and we wanted Dave to oversee our Cabernet Sauvignon planting. We had walked the property together for a couple of hours when he announced, “This is great Cabernet land, and I can make this a great vineyard for you.” It was easy to welcome confidence like that. Now, 23 years later, we note the many highlights we’ve enjoyed over the years – reviews from four prominent wine critics on the 8 bottlings of Cabernet Sauvignon we have made from this 10-acre parcel in Napa’s Conn Valley. Every score was 90 POINTS or higher. We are now releasing the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Neyers Ranch.’ We think it’s the finest wine we’ve made from the grapes grown on our property, combining the strength and power of hillside vineyards, with the elegant touch Tadeo brings to winemaking. Not only was 2012 a textbook vintage for Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, but these vines are now 20 years old and just entering the ‘Sweet Spot’ of their productive years.
