Italian culture, including food and wine, is steeped in deep tradition. The same can be said for the iconic Prosecco wines from the Veneto region of Northern Italy. Mionetto is a stalwart in Prosecco production and based out of Valdobbiadene, a place known for its quality Prosecco. Francesco Mionetto started his winery in 1887 and today they aim to blend modern winemaking techniques with traditional methods and a sense of place. This small area of quality has a temperate climate perfectly suited to Glera, the historical name for the Prosecco grape, which is making a comeback in many wineries.
Mionetto prides itself on using the Charmat method, one that's been used in Prosecco production for a long time. This method, in contrast to ones used in Champagne and other sparkling wine regions, produces the second fermentation in large tanks instead of within the individual bottle. Mionetto claims the Charmat method as responsible for their wine's vitality, youthful fruit and freshness.
The resulting wine has traditional Prosecco notes reminiscent of peaches and dried herbs paired with yellow and white florals. It's a perfect base for a classic Bellini, a must have at any weekend brunch. Mionetto is perfect for toasting a celebration, starting a meal with seafood, pairing with a fruit and nut salad or even with grilled peaches and cream for dessert.
