Matua Sauvignon Blanc isn't simply an icon. It's the first of of its variety from Marlborough, New Zealand. In 1974, Matua paved the way for multiple wineries to turn New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc into a household name. Bill and Ross Spence began their mission in the 1960s and it's been in the family ever since.
Their longevity and dedication can be marked by Matua's very own Ta Moko, a tattoo meant to cover the face of the Maori, a tribe native to this region in the South Island. Each piece to a Ta Moko represents a virtue. Among others, Matua's Ta Moko invokes symbols of their family run-business, their perseverance and their desire to bring quality agriculture to the community around them.
Their Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from Marlborough's famed sub-regions of Wairau Valley and Awatere. The wine undergoes some time on its spent yeasts or “lees" that lends it a vibrancy and freshness. Being among the first New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs produced, it's ripe with the classic calling cards of the region and grapes. The ruby red grapefruit, gooseberry and grass blend nicely with tropical undertones. This wine is prime for a citrus ceviche and may even stretch into dessert with lemon-meringue pie.
