As Robert Parker said reviewing Man’s last releases, “This winery has some fabulous values and should be high on the shopping lists of frugal consumers.” The 2014 Chardonnay is a delight, bursting with cut apple, pear, pineapple and lime zest aromas and flavors with a very light touch of honeysuckle and cream. Even with all the boisterous fruit, this is crisp, clean, and dry with a savory touch of smoke on the finish. The secret here is fantastic fruit fermented in tank, with about 15% spending time in new American oak barrels for 4 months to season them before they’re used for reds. You won’t taste “oak,” but the time in wood gives this snappy Chardonnay a bit more depth than you find in all tank examples. Great with all kinds of food and also as a solo sipper. A Chardonnay even a Sauvignon Blanc drinker will love!
