Product description

The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky gains its distinctive character from being matured in two wood types. Over the period of maturation, it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill European oak sherry cask. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt, whilst the traditional casks soften and adds character and the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavor. On the nose there is sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry, layered with honey and vanilla. Taste is a smooth mellow single malt of beautifully combined flavors – nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry, all encompassed in a long and warming finish. Best enjoyed neat, on the rocks or with a splash of water to expand the flavor. The Balvenie is dedicated to the five rare crafts that are used to create The Balvenie’s distinctive taste. It is the only distillery that still grows its own barley, uses traditional floor maltings and keeps both coppersmiths and coopers on site – making The Balvenie one of the most handcrafted of malts. The Balvenie is a unique range of single malt whiskies produced in Dufftown, Scotland’s Speyside region. Created by internationally renowned Malt Master David C. Stewart MBE, each variant in the range has its own unique taste, while still maintaining the recognizable undertones of the distinctively rich, smooth and honeyed character of The Balvenie. It has won awards at numerous international competitions, including an Outstanding Achievement in The Scotch Whisky Industry Award for David C. Stewart MBE at the 2019 International Wine & Spirit Competition. Handcrafted to be enjoyed responsibly. Nose: Sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla Taste: Smooth and mellow with beautifully combined flavors ~ nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry Finish: Long and warming

I would say I am an intermediate scotch drinker at this point. I do have a lot of Scotland in my dna though (Cunningham) so I believe I have a good pallet for the peat and i truly enjoy it. Although I have not worked up to the really strong Scotch yet, it can taste like medicine to me if the peat is too overwhelming. This one is a very smooth and mild. Excellent choice if you're trying to introduce someone to scotch for the 1st time. I can enjoy it neat or on the rocks. Obviously chilled makes it smoother. The double cask seems to give it a really mellow vibe. I will definitely keep a bottle of this in my cabinet for sure.

I'm not a Scotch connoisseur but coming from the bourbon world, I really enjoy it. It seems to be the perfect Scotch for a whiskey drinker. It's a little pricey so only for a special occasion and would also make a lovely gift for a Scotch it a whiskey drinker who wants to expand their pallet

Absolutely one of the most reasonably priced world class single malts. If you haven’t tried it you can thank me later.
