This was a pleasant surprise. Count me in the group who feel JW Black label has changed and sweetened to attract newbies. Shakelton is less peaty, which I do not like, but has more going on especially if you pop a few drops of water in the glass. This is an honest Scotch and a decent value under normal market conditions.

Product description
Shackleton Blended Malt has been expertly crafted using the finest Highland malt whiskies to recreate the style of the Rare Old Highland Malt commissioned by Sir Ernest Shackleton for his 1907 expedition to the South Pole. The original whisky was lost for a century before being recovered in 2007 by the Antarctic Heritage Trust, frozen in the ice under Shackleton’s base camp hut. As whisky bold as its history, Shackleton's rich flavor profile is fit for the adventurous palate.

Richard Blanc a great value for an every day whisky...anything in the $30 range that tastes this good is a must buy...just a cube or two and you smooth out the day
Ryan L. This whiskey is fantastic from bottle to sip. The bottle has such an amazing look to the label. Makes you think you could find this upon digging for buried pirate treasure on the beach. The taste is simply astounding. When you first place the glass up to your nose, you can immediately smell the robust smokey smell, and it delivers once it hits your pallet. There's a slight bite to the drink, but nothing to sharp to turn you away from another sip. The smoothness of the end of the drink is rewarding as well, going down with the greatest of ease. I drank this on the rocks and it really gave me the full experience with it. Blending it with a mixer and combining it with a bitter would make this whiskey even more enjoyable. Highly recommend it for your next social gathering, or after a long day of buried treasure hunting.
Michael This is an easier going scotch with a touch of that peaty smoke you expect, but not in an overpowering way. It's got some subtle tropical fruitiness which resolves into a nice ripe banana flavor. Plenty of heat, but altogether approachable. A touch of water softens it out to a nutty almost buttery state.
