Product description

Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon has always been proud of its spicy finish, which comes from using twice as much rye as traditional bourbons. The challenges rye presents inspired us to create a very limited release BASIL HAYDEN’S® Rye Whiskey. It’s the spicy taste Whiskey aficionados have come to expect from Basil Hayden’s, and a little more. To build depth into the final Rye Whiskey, we used a small amount of “re-barreled” rye. We start with traditional barreled rye whiskey aged 4 years, dump it out, and then further age it an additional 7 years in newly charred quarter cask oak barrels. Using a quarter cask ensures increased contact with the oak and more air breathed into the cask which means more flavor imparted to the liquid. This is not new, nor is it efficient; it’s just a very effective way to develop deep flavor. We blend this with our traditional rye whiskey, building out the spicy notes. Just a touch of the uniquely flavored re-barreled rye amplifies the warm aroma of baking spices and smooth caramel leading to a clean finish with hints of mint. Those flavors shine through neat or on the rocks.

It is an excellent sipping Rye. I am a MANHATTAN drinker and I was told this would make a great MANHATTAN. It is so smooth that I believe it should be drank NEAT chilled and UP in a chilled glass. HOWEVER I did put a splash of Carpano Vermouth in one and it was PERFECT. THANK YOU BASIL HAYDEN.

I have several ryes that I enjoy regularly. Basil Hayden's rye is the best I have had so far. I hope it becomes a regular edition and not just limited.

I love the Basil Hayden Rye Whiskey. It is the best I have tasted. I was only able to purchase one bottle. My liquor store was unable to get any more of the green label. I also like the Dark Rye. It makes the greatest Rye Manhattans.

FAQs

Yes, whiskey is gluten-free, thanks to the distillation process used to make it. The Celiac Disease Foundation concluded that it can safely be considered gluten-free, though it’s still possible that some people with high gluten sensitivity or celiac disease could have a reaction to whiskeys created from certain grains.
Whiskey can include a large number of different distilled spirits made from fermented grain mash — usually cereal grains like rye, barley malt, wheat and corn. The drink undergoes aging in wooden containers, most often oak.
One of the reasons whiskey is so popular is that there’s no single way to enjoy it. There’s the purist route — straight and neat, no mixers, no ice — but what fun is being a purist? You can add water to it, which can enhance certain bottles’ flavors or you can add it with other ingredients to make delicious mixed drinks. It’s the foundation of the Manhattan, the Old Fashioned, the Whiskey Sour and many others.
