Product description

Expanding from the unique high rye recipe that has always made Basil Hayden Bourbon so uncommon comes a release that focuses on the art of blending two distinct rye whiskies with just a touch of port to unveil an entirely new taste discovery. This blend explores the harmonious combination of 3 distinct liquid profiles for one memorable whiskey. It begins with Kentucky Rye, providing a firm base of spicy rye, rich oak, dried fruit and subtle molasses undertones to build on. Canadian Rye from our award-winning Alberta Distillery is skillfully layered in. This unique rye provides depth to the notes of dried fruit and a more viscous mouth feel than a traditional rye. It’s then finished with a touch of California Port blended in directly to add complementary juicy, ripe fruit without muddying the existing wood notes. The end result is a whiskey full in flavor and still delicately nuanced. Basil Hayden Dark Rye is always perfect sipped on the rocks as well as in a Boulevardier

This is our second bottle. It's Christmas day and EVERYONE loves it! This is a favorite among our top shelf picks and never fails to impress both regular picky drinkers and those that don't like a whiskey at all. This bottle is a wonderfully silky-smooth drink upfront with great flavors and a finish that stays delightful and impresses you with an abundance of flavors. GREAT bottle!

Picked this up at my favorite vendor. Used it in my Old Fashkoned recipe, and became a convert straight away. Not easy to find in the Midwes, but definitely worth the search!

The dark rye with the addition of port was elegant, smooth, and with a unique taste. This new formulation is more of an ordinary whiskey except that it has a harsh forward taste. And the unique taste the port added is completely missing. There's really no reason to buy this.

Rookie whiskey drinker here... but after tasting over a dozen different whiskeys this is fantastic. I could drink this all night long! Definitely on the sweeter side, that port showing through. Hmm nice : )

This rye over ice is the best Old Fashioned you'll ever taste. I'm in love. I don't care for sweet drinks. This one has just enough sweetness to taste like a expertly blended cocktail. It's very reasonably priced as well. You won't be disappointed.

LOVE this Rye. My favorite sipping whiskey. Doesn't need anything with it, just a good, straight to drink, out of the bottle.

Tastes a bit like a Manhattan out of the bottle. As I age with my whiskeys, a little smoothness goes a long way. I just add 2-3 drops of ice cold water to open up the nose and complexities. Delicious

FAQs

Yes, whiskey is gluten-free, thanks to the distillation process used to make it. The Celiac Disease Foundation concluded that it can safely be considered gluten-free, though it’s still possible that some people with high gluten sensitivity or celiac disease could have a reaction to whiskeys created from certain grains.
Whiskey can include a large number of different distilled spirits made from fermented grain mash — usually cereal grains like rye, barley malt, wheat and corn. The drink undergoes aging in wooden containers, most often oak.
One of the reasons whiskey is so popular is that there’s no single way to enjoy it. There’s the purist route — straight and neat, no mixers, no ice — but what fun is being a purist? You can add water to it, which can enhance certain bottles’ flavors or you can add it with other ingredients to make delicious mixed drinks. It’s the foundation of the Manhattan, the Old Fashioned, the Whiskey Sour and many others.
