Product description

Bronze amber in color, Suntory Hibiki 21 Year Old is amazingly balanced and tenderly unfolding a calm essence of sandalwood, honeycomb, caramelized nuts, ripe banana and rich sherry spice. The rich and complex palate offers notes of cooked fruit, dried apricot, dark cherry, caramel, spice and Mizunara. Hints of incense and smoke lingers through the long, structured finish.

The price is maybe 200. This is outrageous. Do not buy at these prices.

FAQs

Yes, whiskey is gluten-free, thanks to the distillation process used to make it. The Celiac Disease Foundation concluded that it can safely be considered gluten-free, though it’s still possible that some people with high gluten sensitivity or celiac disease could have a reaction to whiskeys created from certain grains.
Whiskey can include a large number of different distilled spirits made from fermented grain mash — usually cereal grains like rye, barley malt, wheat and corn. The drink undergoes aging in wooden containers, most often oak.
One of the reasons whiskey is so popular is that there’s no single way to enjoy it. There’s the purist route — straight and neat, no mixers, no ice — but what fun is being a purist? You can add water to it, which can enhance certain bottles’ flavors or you can add it with other ingredients to make delicious mixed drinks. It’s the foundation of the Manhattan, the Old Fashioned, the Whiskey Sour and many others.

Drizly's take

The House of Suntory introduced Hibiki® 21-Year-Old Japanese Whisky in 1989 to honor the 90th anniversary of perfecting their craft. Patrons of this classic spirit uphold it as an exemplar of Japanese whisky as it carefully blends a range of malt and grain whiskies to construct a flavorful, aromatic experience.

For a special treat on a cold day, try Hibiki Suntory Japanese whisky hot. Pour hot water into your favorite mug to warm the glass, while heating additional water to 176 degrees Fahrenheit. Pour the warm water out of the mug and replace it with one-third whiskey. Add two to three times as much hot water, lightly stir and serve. Top with cinnamon or set up a tasting to experiment with your favorite garnishes.
