Kirkland Canadian whisky is aged for 6 years and presumably given a light spice/sweet additive to smooth out the profile (as is common with almost all Canadian whisky). At this time, we don't know where the whisky is produced but the marketing literature promises a base of 95% corn along with 2% rye and 2% barley. This makes it almost entirely a corn whisky... far more corn than most American bourbons on the market and implies to us a sweet,corn-forward flavor. Puzzlingly, the remaining 1% is listed as "sherry." Whether this is actually sherry wine or something else isn't entirely clear. If it is a wine additive, it is the only one we're aware of on the market but presumably falls within the 9% additive component permissible for Canadian whisky. Wine enthusiasts looking to branch out might enjoy it.
