Product description

Fistful of Bourbon is a blend of five straight American bourbons – literally a damn fistful. Created by William Grant & Son’s Master Blender Brian Kinsman, who was awarded the 2017 ISC Master Distiller of the Year, and Kelsey McKechnie, William Grant & Son’s Whisk(e)y Blender, who happens to be the world’s youngest female Apprentice Malt Master. After sampling loads of straight bourbons, they landed on five that make up the complex, yet smooth flavor profile they were searching for. A touch of sweetness, green/leafy/floral, warm spice/nutmeg, buttery toffee, and notes of cinnamon/licorice all blended together to make one bourbon that’s big, balanced and stands apart from all the rest. Not for nothin’ Fistful was awarded a Double Gold medal at the 2019 International Spirits Challenge (ISC) and a Gold medal at the 2020 San Francisco Spirits Awards. Seems like one mighty fine bourbon ya’ll shouldn’t miss out on! IT AIN’T JUST A BOURBON. IT’S A DAMN FISTFUL.

A little rough on the back end

First sip or two were not impressive. As I worked my way thru the pour and took a little time, things started to settle down and some tasty flavors began to appear. I have a feeling that this bourbon will improve as I work my way thru the bottle and let the air work on it a bit. Interestingly, judging by names, it appears that a majority of the reviewers on this product appear to be female.....much higher than you normally see on review sites for whiskeys.

I usually have a bottle of Woodford Reserve, Blanton's (when I can find it), and Buffalo Trace on my shelf at home. Today, just on a whim, after reading the back label that described the straight bourbon's in the mix, I purchased my first bottle of Fistful of Bourbon. A few hours later, after a late lunch, I sampled a healthy pour (neat - don't ruin a good bourbon with an ice cube) of my new find. I was pleasantly surprised. An array of flavors hit my taste buds all at once. I really like this bourbon. I think this bourbon is perfectly suited for being an after dinner, relax in your family room, drink. Two thumbs up.

Very pleasant flavor. Smoother than I expected, yet it has nice hints of vanilla, burnt oak and a bit more caramel than a lot of other bourbons. If you are looking for something to jump up and slap your taste buds look elsewhere.

So tasty! I recently got into bourbon and this is making for an excellent introduction (especially to the art of the old fashioned).

I've been drinking this now for a couple of months, Versatile as straight or with mixers ( makes a tremendous Old Fashioned!!). Very economical bourbon vs. many other over priced competitors. As Tuco would say…"don't die on me blonde!" keep it coming!!

FAQs

Bourbon is a corn-based, aged spirit that, while legally can be produced anywhere in the U.S., is Kentucky’s signature liquor; in fact, Kentucky distilleries make 95% of the world’s bourbon and the Bluegrass State hosts over a million visitors annually for bourbon tasting tourism.
Because of the liquor’s aging process variation, bourbon’s colors range from light amber to dark caramel and each bottle must contain at least 40% ABV. Bourbon can only be called bourbon if it’s aged in an oak barrel; barrels must be new and are pre-charred to help the liquid extract as much flavor as possible from the wood.
Much like how a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square, bourbon is a whiskey — but because of the stricter standards set for bourbon distillers, most whiskies are not considered bourbons.
While both whiskey and bourbon are made from the same base ingredients (a predominantly corn mash, yeast and water), a spirit can only be called bourbon if it’s crafted in the United States, surpasses a minimum 40% ABV and is aged in new, charred, white oak barrels. Bourbons are generally on the younger side of the whiskey family (compared to older whiskies like scotch) and thus deliver a sweeter profile.
Bourbon’s ingredient list is short and sweet (literally): corn, other grains, water and yeast. Barley, wheat and rye grains are often featured in the mash composition alongside the liquor’s signature corn base, but even so, the FDA considers straight bourbon as a gluten-free product that is safe for those with Celiac Disease or for individuals who suffer from other forms of gluten intolerance.
Raise a glass to science: While rye, barley and wheat all contain the gluten protein, the actual gluten is removed during the bourbon’s distillation process, in which the gluten molecules are separated from the actual distillate used to make the final product.
