While I was a doing a tour of Italy last October, I cane across this bottle in a store for 12 euros. I thought ok, it’s nearing 11pm, I want some late night pizza and to watch redzone on my phone. I guess a bottle couldn’t hurt. I drank it straight with only water as a chaser. It tastes just... I mean... not great but the experience I’ll never forget and I have such a fondness in my heart for this liquor. I recommend it to everyone

There is a deep herbal and foral combination. Compare to Campari.

Montenegro has a great balance of fresh herb & savory spice that I find neither too bitter/minty nor too sweet/figgy. It’s easy to drink but offers more in complexity and versatility than other common liqueurs at this price.

Drizly's take

There are many liqueurs, but none quite like Amaro Montenegro Italiano liqueur. First crafted in 1885, this creation was named after Princess Elena of Montenegro. The liqueur, then and now, contains up to 40 botanicals that give it an amazing flavor.

This Montenegro liqueur is bitter, sweet and citrusy all at once. First are the zesty flavors of an orange. Next come the bitter and herbaceous notes of coriander, oregano, artemisia and marjoram. Finally, the sweet tones of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves finish it off. You can drink this straight if you prefer to savor the rich flavors on their own. You could always use it as a cocktail liqueur and mix it with everything from gin to tequila to rum. See if Drizly is in your city and look for liquor stores on Drizly near you.
