Tanqueray’s “London Dry” designation actually signifies quality — as opposed to regular gin, London Dry gin must use a base alcohol that’s made only with top-quality, natural botanicals, and only water can be added following the second distillation. When extracted from the still, London Dry gins are around 70% alcohol by volume but diluted to around 40% when sold. When you purchase Tanqueray London Dry gin, you’re getting a high-grade gin whose flavor comes entirely from all-natural botanicals.
Tanqueray gin is excellent on its own, but if you’re going to add something to it, it’s recommended that you try ingredients that will complement and bring out the botanicals. Try fruits like blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries, or add citrus fruit juices (pineapple and orange juice are great options) and/or rosemary. Flavored seltzer, cucumber, grapefruit, lime, soda water, tonic, and vermouth are excellent companions to Tanqueray gin.
Start by filling a highball glass or gin coupe glass with ice and pouring the gin and tonic over it, mixing the blend gently. Next comes the garnish, and your choice of garnish will be critical to nailing the mixture since Tanqueray blends well with flavors that bring out the botanicals. We recommend zesting a bit of lime into the glass, adding herbs like mint or basil, or even throwing in some rosemary — and don’t forget a pinch of salt to add bite.
