Because isn't that the whole point?
Domaine D'Esperance, a formerly abandoned estate on a hillside in the Sables Fauves of Gascony, was purchased and renovated in 1990 by Jean-Louis and Claire de Montesquiou. The estate's fruit-forward armagnac is produced with Baco 22A and Folle Blanche grown in the sandy clay soil of Grand-Bas-Armagnac at the border of the Landes and the Gers at Mauvezin d'Armagnac. After the grapes undergo natural fermentation, the wine is distilled in a traditional Armagnac still and then matured in gascon oak barrels. Domaine D'Esperance 5 Year Old Bas Armagnac is a blend of three different vintages which have been matured in gascon oak casks for at least five years. An enticing nose of dried fruit, caramel, spicy vanilla and black peppercorn gives way to a lively, medium-bodied palate boasting flavors of toffee, espresso, almond, tobacco leaf and pine. Notes of raisin and spicy oak linger through the clean, assertive finish.
