All about Stock
Stock vermouth is a staple in some of the most famous cocktails, from martinis and Manhattans to Negronis and Gibsons. Many of these vintage libations are experiencing a well-deserved resurgence. Stock’s vermouth begins as Italian wine, which is carefully steeped with a blend of 50 botanicals (the recipe’s a secret). The Stock line of vermouths was established back in the late 19th century in Italy. Lionello Stock, a businessman born in Croatia, is credited with creating the original vermouth recipe, available today in three distinct varieties: Extra Dry, Bianco and Rosso. Rosso Vermouth is made from red wine, so the taste is much sweeter than its Extra Dry counterpart, which begins as a dry white wine.
Stock vermouth is notably well balanced and can be sipped on the rocks with a citrus twist as a popular aperitif. Make sure to keep your vermouth in the fridge; while Stock’s blend fortifies their product with brandy (which is a distilled spirit), vermouth, like wine, is fermented alcohol, so it can spoil if opened and left out too long. Stock is an older European brand that values its rich history, yet the company today makes efforts to address sustainability initiatives and workplace diversity, so you can feel even better about that evening martini you make with your bottle from Drizly!
