If Johnnie Walker was personified through "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," Johnnie Walker Green Label would be the one that's "just right." Smack dab in the middle of the price range and aging of the lineup, Johnnie Walker Green Label is a sophisticated blended malt Scotch whisky that offers all the familiar undertones of Johnnie Walker fame, yet with more depth and robust flavor. These flavors are the result of its distillation process, which combines four of its famed single malts including Caol Ila, Linkwood, Cragganmore and Talisker. These malts are then aged for 15 years to bring out the complex flavors. The most remarkable thing about Johnnie Walker Green Label is that it's the only version that blends these single malts.
It's a good thing that you get the opportunity to try Johnnie Walker Green Label, as the distillery gave it the ax nearly five years ago. The company itself wasn't quite sure when it would return, but its inclusion is a godsend. Crack open a bottle and pour in a rocks glass to get the rich fullness of its nose. It has notes of espresso, chocolate and oak finished by a smoky aroma. A taste of the libation reveals coffee, vanilla, malt, chocolate and walnut. It almost sounds like your favorite morning beverage, but perhaps sipping Johnnie Walker Green Label in the A.M. is too bold a move. Instead, sip it after work on the rocks, neat or with just a bit of water.
