From fireworks to firing up the grill, celebrate America's favorite holiday with a 4th of July cocktail. Ripe blackberries and simple syrup make this bourbon wine cocktail sweet, while cooling mint and zesty lemon balance it out. Garnish with more blackberries and mint for a classy patriotic drink to serve up all day long.


  • 1 ½ parts Basil Hayden's Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 
  • ½ part fresh lemon juice 
  • ¾ part simple syrup 
  • 7 blackberries 
  • 7 fresh mint leaves 
  • 2-3 parts sparkling wine


  • Muddler
  • Shaker
  • Mixing glass
  • Ice cube tray
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Collins glass

How to Mix

  1. Muddle 6 blackberries and 6 mint leaves in a shaker with ¼ part simple syrup
  2. In the mixing glass, combine Basil Hayden's, lemon juice and remaining simple syrup and add to the muddled blackberries and mint leaves
  3. Add ice and shake
  4. Double strain into a Collins glass with fresh crushed ice
  5. Top with sparkling wine
  6. Garnish with skewered mint leaf and blackberry
