Drizly Expert Notes

Frankziskaner Hefe-Weissbier is one of the classic German Hefeweizens that needs to be drunk time and time again, just to take a trip back in time. Although a mouthful to pronounce, Hefeweizens are German wheat beers. Frankziskaner's Hefe-Weissbier is 5% ABV, is and has big banana and clove aromas and flavors, which are extremely typical and traditional for Hefeweizens (the specific yeast strain is the reason for this - - we all this “esters").

Opening up with the banana, clove, bubble gum, and even a little peach aroma, this beer is incredibly carbonated. Pour it into a tall wheat beer glass or a pint glass slowly. You're going to get a big, off white head ontop of the beer immediately that won't be going away any time soon. The color will be a pretty opaque golden yellow, since it's not a filtered beer. Pour about ¾ of the bottle into the glass, swirl the bottle around to agitate the yeast at the bottom (if you choose to do so), then pour the rest into the glass.

The addition of wheat (yes wheat, not barley) is crucial for Hefeweizens, and add to the creamy mouthfeel and overall experience of the beer. Super light, incredibly refreshing, these are perfect candidates for warmer weather. With a pretty specific flavor profile, Frankziskaner Hefe-Weissbier will pair beautifully with soft mild cheeses, and spicy thai food to let the heavy carbonation and bubbles wash away the spiciness.

This is a great alternative to Blue Moon, and has significantly more history, being that brewery has monastic roots dating back to the 1300s. Go drink this REAL weat beer!
