The 2011 Howell Mountain Zinfandel is a gorgeous expression of the unique terrain and climate of this appellation. Though 89% from the famed Black Sears Vineyard, it is shy of the 95% required for single vineyard labeling. This wine has a very seductive nose with aromatics of wild plum, cherry, lavender and baking spices with hints of pink peppercorn, forest floor and earth. The lush palate offers generous flavors of blueberry, blackberry, nutmeg, dried herbs and bacon fat with velvety smooth tannins for a polished yet undeniably assertive delivery. Complex, round and pure, this Zin never misses a beat as it winds its way to a finish that is feminine, silky and smooth. It is truly a beautiful expression of this grape grown in this distinctive mountain terroir.
