Inspired by the classic farm-fresh cider New Englanders know and love. Original Blend is the Auerbach to our Celtics, the Satisfaction to our Stones, the Agent K to our Men In Black: our foundation. From its humble beginnings in the basement of a Bates College dormitory, Original Blend is the result of hundreds of test batches aimed at crafting the best damn hard cider you’ve ever tasted. Original Blend is made from freshly pressed local apples – Red Delicious, McIntosh, Cortland, Gala – NEVER with concentrate or artificial flavors/sweeteners. Original Blend is the way cider should be.View all products by Downeast Cider
Downeast Cider Original Blend is like drinking a farm fresh apple that was somehow just squeezed into a can using brute strength. Made from a variety of fresh pressed apples from a lively orchard in Maine, the flavor in each can of unfiltered cider is gushing with sweet apple goodness.
Being an unfiltered cider, as weird as it may sound, it's recommended to give each can a firm shake before opening, allowing the apple sediment and yeast to reinvigorate itself, allowing each sip to be a perfect sip. Be sure to wait a few seconds after shaking to avoid a mess upon opening, but once you do crack open a can, you'll instantly be transported to the orchard by way of your nose. Sweet dessert apple notes from Red Delicious, Gala, and Cortland apples instantly waft through the air. The urge to bake a pie will overtake you immediately.
This is a sweet cider, tasting something similar to the fresh apple cider that we grew up drinking from highway stands on cross country trips if you were to add a bit of carbonation, balanced with just the slightest hint of acidity. The finish is bittersweet, like biting into an apple right off the tree.
Enjoy a can of Downeast Cider Original Blend with a variety of foods from a buttery grilled cheese sandwich made with sharp cheddar and your favorite loaf of sourdough bread to a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream sitting atop a half-baked cinnamon raisin cookie fresh out of the oven. Sit under a tree and sip a pint while pondering the reason for the existence of fruit in the first place or pour a glass for your mom to pay her back for all of those years of rebellious youth.
