New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc has paved the way for the country's burgeoning and fairly young wine scene. It has emerged as an instant classic and is well-known all over the globe. One of the founding wineries that contributed to this movement was Cloudy Bay. Founded in 1985, it was one of the first five wineries in Marlborough.
Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc doesn't disappoint in exemplifying the classic style. There's rich ruby red grapefruit, juicy nectarine, passion fruit and big, bright florals. There are grassy tones with a touch of jalapeno that have given this classic wine its signature style. This is the wine to choose with those harder to pair dishes like bitter greens and asparagus but would be just as perfect with seafood or goat cheese.
Cloudy Bay's location was discovered by David Hohnen after coming across the now infamous bay and noticing that its unique sediment deposits created an opaque appearance, hence Cloudy Bay. Grapes sourced from the Northern Wairau Valley and the central Southern Valley give a sense of the scope of Marlborough, this dynamic Northern region on the South Island. After 32 vintages, Cloudy Bay routinely puts out wines reminiscent of New Zealand's short but powerful history in winemaking.
