Drizly Expert Notes

Close Du Bois Chardonnnay offers an outstanding stylistic bridge between French and Californian wines. Founder Frank Woods began Clos Du Bois with the goal to find a balance between the subtle and earthy French style wines and the extroverted, generously oaked Californian wines of the time. The winery remains committed to his founding philosophy and continues to provide flavorful and elegant wines at an excellent value to their devotees. Furthermore, Clos Du Bois is passionately committed to the environment and their winery uses over 4,000 solar panels to provide electricity. They have won a number of awards for their careful commitment to sustainable agriculture and reverence for nearby water sources.

Clos Du Bois sources high-quality fruit from diverse vineyards all over Sonoma County and coastal California. These regions benefit from cooling influences of the Pacific due to a break in the coastal ridge called the Petaluma Gap. This allows fruit to grow to delicious ripeness while retaining bright and refreshing tartness.

The wine displays a shining pale lemon color and offers an enticing bouquet of aromas. At first sniff, Clos du Bois Chardonnay displays rich notes of apple blossoms and vanilla bean conjure the familiar memory of an orchard in late summer. The wine feels rich and creamy on the palette with a refreshing lemon-drop character, balanced by flavors of toast and oak. This wine is a classic pairing with grilled fish such as salmon or baked haddock topped with breadcrumbs and butter.
