The character and subtle structure of Clarendelle Amberwine are due to late-harvested grapes that are either overripe or affected by Botrytis cinerea (i.e.”noble rot” like in Sauternes). Amberwine‘s name comes from the magnificent amber colour it takes on after 10 years. Produced by Clarence Dillon Wines, in conjunction with the winemaking team from Chateau Haut-Brion and Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion. Critics have scored this as one of the top 5 Monbazillac wines. Ranked second for number of awards won among wines from this region: the Vinalies Internationales awarded the 2003 Or and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles awarded the 2003 vintage Silver. This is among the highest-priced wines from Monbazillac. The price has been stable over the past year.
