ETIENNE DUPONT – CIDRE BOUCHÉ BRUT DE NORMANDIE ABV 5.5% Created using the traditional method of the Pays d’Auge. Cidre Bouché is full of fruit and freshness, the taste reveals the aromas of apples and citrus with finesse. Appearance: Rich Golden Colour, Almost Clear Aroma: Leather, Farmhouse Funk Taste: Wood, Smoke, Leather Background: Probably the most widely available French Cider company in North America. Etienne Dupont is located in Pays d’Auge, a part of Normandy well known for the quality of its ciders. The Dupont Estate consists of 74 Acres in Normandy, in the heart of the Pays d’Auge region. They produce ciders, pommeau and calvados. First Taste is: It starts slightly dry and moves to subdued sour middle with a nice slightly yeasty finish. It has a really nice balance of sweet and tart here. Flavours of wood, smoke and leather are not overpowering, but are a nice complement to the gentle apple flavour. The French are the masters of subtle ciders. Although I tend to like more English styled ciders there is something to be said about the Keeving process which tends to produce a cider with more naturally subtle sweetness and residual flavour. This cider is a perfect example of such subtly.
