Chardonnay grapes grown in Clarksburg are known for their characteristic apple and pear aromas and flavors. Bogle winemakers have captured these refreshing and ripe notes while allowing them to develop and intensify through stainless steel fermentation. Additional grapes are vinted using the techniques of barrel fermentation, sur-lies aging and partial malolactic fermentation, which creates an elegant counterpart to the fresh fruit with tones of spicy vanilla and nutmeg. The Bogle family have been farming in Clarksburg, California for 6 generations. They planted their first grapes in 1968, and today have over 1,000 acres planted. Clarksburg is a small farming community in the Sacramento Delta and the Bogles are committed to protecting their land and the Earth in general with sustainable farming. In 2010, they became one of the first wineries to abide by the strict rules that dictate sustainable farming. And starting with the 2017 vintage, the Bogle estate will pay an extra two million dollars to ensure that all 91 partners associated with their estate will grow sustainably. Bogle is only one of three wineries to do this without passing any of the cost cost to their customers.
The best way to describe Bogle Chardonnay is layered. It's handcrafted using both American oak and stainless steel, sur lie aging (allowing wine to sit on the lees for complexity) and batonnage (stirring of the lees). These techniques create full body and a creamy mouthful that's unforgettable. Aromas are rich in pear, apple and twinkle of vanilla. The taste is consistent, bringing over the apple and pear but adding in a bit of melon and pineapple along with some baked spices. There is a long buttery finish that lingers.
