Product Description

Magic Hat #9 is an ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue & ask more than it answers. It's a sorta, dry, crisp, refreshing, not quite pale ale with subtle notes of fruit and a floral hop bitterness. Brewed clandestinely & given a name whose meaning is never revealed.

Drizly Expert Notes

Magic Hat #9 is a curious elixir that has been gracing your pint glasses and refrigerators for several decades if you are a resident of the North East, but might be new to you if you reside elsewhere in the country. Brewed in the lovely state of Vermont and likely inspired by the changing leaves in the midst of Autumn, this beer that is not quite pale ale and not quite, well, just not quite any other beer style, is a popular choice for lovers of hops who also have a taste for something just a bit twisted. Brewed with an enigmatic recipe, it's typically assumed that there is a bit of apricot added to the brew, giving this beer an extra kick of prestidigitation on the tongue.

Pouring a shiny amber, nearly copper color with a rich white head, we definitely recommend enjoying this beer out of your favorite drinking vessel as it will allow the flavor to shine. The aroma on this beer is quite striking. There are wonderful hints of apricots, peaches, and other stone fruit. It's incredibly inviting and clean and blends with just a hint of caramel and floral hop tones. The flavor is a bit magical. It has the backbone of a more typical American pale ale, toasted malts, floral, citrus forward hops, but is dominated by the fruit character. It's a really fun beer to drink that refreshes on a warm day, but provides the sweetness needed for enjoyment on a cold day as well. There is most certainly some sorcery going on here.

Magic Hat #9 is a magnificent beer to pair with food given it's huge fruit flavor. Pair the apricot notes with a rack of lamb chops seared to perfection, served alongside a creamy polenta. Team it with soft chevre cheese, dried fruit, and airy crackers. Order a six pack and you'll find yourself drinking this beer on the regular be it while streaming a Saturday night movie or setting up a perfect picnic along a local hiking trail.
