Drizly Expert Notes

Asahi Brewery, Japan's largest brewery, formulated the recipe for Asahi Super Dry (5.0% ABV) in 1987. Since then, this dry, crisp lager with hints of German pilsner brewing tradition has dominated the Japanese market and become the country's best-selling beer (as Bud Light is to the American market).

Along with being the largest beer and soft drink producer in Japan, Asahi has helped the environmental impact of its brewery facilities by creating the largest solar energy facility of any beer production factory in the world in Hakata, reducing water usage and waste, boiling the wort and hops separately to reduce energy usage, and more. Despite its size, Asahi has used its scale and technology to set an example of a movement towards environmental-friendly commercial brewing.

Asahi Super Dry pairs with its natural habitat, the Japanese restaurant. The gentle and sweet graininess matches with the rice in sushi, while still having a light bitterness to cut through the fat and protein of the fish. Continuing the beer's versatility, Asahi Super Dry cleanses the palate for dishes like charred yakitori (skewered chicken grilled over charcoal fire), hefty okonomiyaki (Japanese cabbage pancake), creamy and salty Japanese beef curry.
