The origin of München Münchener Kindl Hefe Weizen dates back to 1589 and since then the Weise has a distinctive place in the history of Hofbräu München, München Münchener Kindl Hefe Weizen is characterized by its sparkling, by its rich foam, and naturally by its unforgettable refreshing taste.
Hofbrau Hefe Weizen is an absolute classic rendition of this timeless German wheat beer. The Hofbrauhaus brewery was founded over 400 years ago by the Duke of Bavaria as a means to creating better beer in the state that he ruled over from the city of Munich. It was at this brewery in the very early 17th Century that the Bavarian style hefe weizen was not only created, but for many years it was the only place legally allowed to produce this style of beer. The flavor was something completely new from the light and dark lagers that had dominated the continent in those years. The hefeweizen was soft and hazy with huge notes of bananas and cloves from the unique weizen yeast. These flavors and the traditions that surround hefeweizen are easily enjoyed today by cracking open a cold bottle of Hofbrau’s beer.
The bavarian style hefe weizen is intended to be poured into a tall, German-style wheat beer glass. The beer should be poured hard, allowing its head to foam on the top, the yeast to mix throughout the beer giving it that distinct, cloudy yellow look with a massive billowing white head. The aroma of the beer has notes of bananas, cloves, bubblegum, and hints of lemon zest. The flavor is spot on for the style. It has a slick mouthfeel from the use of wheat and the flavor is perfectly balanced between the banana notes and the light bitterness from the German noble hops. There are hints of pink peppercorn, cloves, and overripe plantains that make this beer a joy to drink.
Hofbrau Hefe Weizen is a wonderful beer to be enjoyed on a cool Spring day, seated at a long picnic table covered in food, surrounded by friends, listening to the sounds of a loud brass band. It’s a beer meant to be enjoyed all day long as you celebrate the simple joys of life. Pair a glass with lighter foods like beer battered fried shrimp or a bit of goat cheese and apricot jam spread thinly on a bit of melba toast.
