Drizly Expert Notes

Troegs Nugget Nectar is the beer equivalent of fresh squeezed juice at a farmer’s market. Brewed just once a year, when hops are harvested from their bines (yes, hops grow on bines, not vines) the miracle workers in the Troegs brewery work out a recipe for an American amber ale that incorporates a heap of fresh, whole flower hops. Excessively dry hopped, intended to showcase the flavor of the new harvest, this beer is an explosion of pine, resin, and mango.` While easily enjoyable right out of the can or bottle, it would be a shame to waste the enormous hop aroma by drinking from a tiny opening. Pour this nectar into a glass and allow it to breathe the air. Immediately you’ll notice the aromas of citrus and pine, of flowers and tree sap. Grapefruit pith, white peppercorn, and mango will come to mind as your thoughts wander with this beer beneath your nose. Take a sip and instantly you are transported to a field of citrus trees. Hints of tangerine zest, orange marmalade, and lemon rinds are accented by the sweet caramel malts that turn this beer the soft orange color that it pours. It is a wonderful reflection of what fresh hops can be and should be. Troegs Nugget Nectar isn’t thought of as an IPA, but it is most definitely a beer for IPA lovers. It’s an annual opportunity to taste fresh hops used in a most perfect way. Celebrate the change of seasons with a glass of this beer. Celebrate new beginnings as you and your best friends climb the highest peak while on a weekend getaway to the mountains. Pair the beer with roasted sausages, caramelized yams, and dijon coated root vegetables. Try a bottle with a grilled pork belly bahn mi sandwich as you entertain guests for a late winter house party.
