Epic Brewing Tart 'n Juicy Sour IPA is one of the most interesting beers on the market today, but it’s really no surprise given the excitement that continually oozes from this Utah based brewery. Epic has been using their affinity for unusual styles to create genre bending beers since their inception and this one is truly ingenious. Combining the rage for juicy IPAs brewed with big citrusy hops with the excitement countrywide for tart beers, this sour IPA combines the best of both worlds. The brewmasters begin with a low alcohol, kettle soured beer and by the end of fermentation find themselves dryhopping the sour beer with loads of fruit forward hops for an exciting finish.
Poured into a glass of your choosing, the beer is a slightly cloudy copper , nearly reminiscent of a grapefruit soda, or maybe the mind just tricks you into thinking it’s grapefruit because of the aromas that emerge. Heaps of citrus, lemony tartness, grapefruit rinds, and a hint of that deep forest-like herbal quality from a day stomping through the local mountains. The flavor is tart. This is a sour beer at the front, but in the finish it has all of your favorite IPA notes. Tangerine juice, orange pith, pine needles, all somehow complimenting this lactic tart beer in a wonderfully suprising way. It’s easy to drink and incredibly different from anything else on the market.
Epic Brewing Tart 'n Juicy Sour IPA is a really fun beer to pair with any situation and any sort of cuisine. Being such a bizarre brew, you may as well save this one for the most bizarre days like drinking on the roof of a mansion on a Tuesday night or sharing with a stranger at jury duty. That last one might be a bad idea. The tartness pairs well with fried seafood, cutting the fat and balancing with the light flavors while the hops go great with rich cheeseburgers with a side of fries.
