Kinda like our IPA on steroids… Flavor so hoppy it threatens to remove the enamel from one's teeth.View all products by Lagunitas
Lagunitas Maximus doesn't put its name to shame. This maximum flavor IPA, or maybe double IPA at 8.2% abv, doesn't hold back one bit when it comes to that in your face hop character. A spin on the modern classic style of beer that was perhaps born on the west coast in a room full of hops, Lagunitas pretty much goes explosively hop mad on this one. The alcohol goes up a notch from their standard IPA and that fresh green flavor jumps up several. The original west coast style IPAs were created as a testament to the American love for going bigger and bolder, taking the basic concept from the original IPA that was made to travel the long distance from England to India, focussing in on the hop flavor and caramelly malts and boozy consequences. Maximus just goes even further down that track and it does it well.
Poured out into a sturdy pint glass, the beer shimmers the color of an orange blossom honey. A soft white head rests atop, little bubbles of carbonation rising continually from the bottom of the glass. The nose on this beer is massive, as would be expected from the name. Huge bursts of citrus peels and resin overtake your nostrils before the beer has even reached your lips. The flavor is a wallop of hoppy fruit flavors. Grapefruit flesh and pine needles tumble across your tongue, finishing each sip with a hint of malted toffee and a smooth, enjoyable bitterness. It's is a beer that the ultimate IPA drinker will find absolutely intoxicating.
Lagunitas Maximus is a beer full of flavor, perfect for sipping all on its own, but it can also stand up to some huge flavors if you are eating alongside it. Pair it up with some take-out curry from your favorite local Thai restaurant. The sweet coconut milk base combined with the herbs and spices will be a magical pairing. This is a beer to be enjoyed by the IPA connoisseur as the hop intensity is not for beginners. Have a six pack available for your biggest beer drinking friends the next time you're screening a 90's martial arts movie on your new flatscreen TV and they will be thoroughly impressed.
