Bent Water Brewing Thunder Funk IPA is an exceptional example of the ultra hoppy, west coast style IPA even though it is brewed pretty much as far east as possible in the waterfront district of Lynn, Massachusetts. Founded by four friends as an intersection of science, art, and love, Bent Water has been churning out some of the best beer that money can buy for a number of years now. Their beers are consistently experimental in style, showcasing the nuances that can be had through the development of hop flavors and malt backbones during fermentation in both steel and sometimes even concrete housings.
Thunder Funk IPA is the amalgamation of 6 different hop varieties along with 3 different types of malts and one colorful can. Poured into a pint glass, this beer gives new meaning to the idea of head. The bright copper colored beer has a magnificent bounty of foam that will sit on top of the beer, seeming waiting until you dip your nose down into it to finally subside a bit. The aroma showcases a number of qualities from the fine choice of hops. There are hints of mangoes, tangerine peels, lemon rind, pine cones, resin, and just a dash of dark honey. The flavor is well balanced, the caramel tones from the malts act as a pleasant base for the bitter, citrus quality of the hops to dance, all of it coming together into something bright and beautiful.
Bent Water Brewing Thunder Funk IPA is a special beer with flavors of the Pacific Northwest designed for the hard working Massachusettes dweller. Enjoy a pint on the docks, watching the ships come in as the tide shifts and the moon rises. Take a six pack to a summertime crab bake at your parent’s place on the Vineyard. Pair this IPA with classics like grilled chicken wings dredged in a homemade spicy bbq rub or team it with all of your favorite football viewing snacks.
