I like drinking darker beers in the winter, and this is well balanced without being “just another brown ale.”

A surprisingly bright taste and a dry, chocolaty finish – one evocative of dark brews enjoyed in Belgian taverns 500 years ago. Not a porter, not a stout -- it's 1554.View all products by New Belgium Brewing CompanyCalifornia Residents: Click here for Proposition 65 WARNING

Absolutely the best beer I've ever had!!! Take a nice dark lager, add a hint of dark chocolate and OMG the best ever....only downside is can't always get it here and only available in 6 packs....i want a case or a keg.
1554® Enlightened Dark Ale is part of New Belgium® Brewing Company's Belgian Collection. Its mahogany color and tan head are reminiscent of brews found in Belgian taverns centuries ago. Aromas of chocolate and roasted coffee emanate from New Belgium 1554 Dark Ale. Its sweetness, modest bitterness and a tad of fruitiness allow this brew to feel light on the palate. Serve with dark meats like lamb, liver or venison, and earthy vegetables such as mushrooms and onions. Serve this ale at a temperature of around 50 degrees Fahrenheit in stout-type or nonic pint glassware to fully appreciate its flavors and aroma.
