Product Description

In honor of the 200th anniversary of Francis Scott Key’s penning of The Star Spangled Banner just outside of Fort McHenry right here in Baltimore, we’ve brewed up this easy drinking, all-American beer. Our take on a classic American style, the Cream Ale, this light golden ale is brewed with American grown barley, wheat, corn, & oats and lightly hopped with Columbus for bittering and a kiss of floral Mosaic. This all-American classic is just the thing to make you sing!

Drizly Expert Notes

Union Anthem is a near perfect representation of the classic American cream ale brewed in honor of the 200th anniversary of the penning of the Star Spangled Banner. Brewed by the great folks at Baltimore’s Union Craft Brewing, it is a beer intended to reflect the sort of beer that Americans have been enjoying for well over two hundred years at this point. Brewed with two sorts of barley along with red wheat, flaked corn, and flaked barley, it takes true advantage of our “amber waves of grain.” Their carefully aligned ratio of grains is lightly hopped with Columbus hops for the bittering and kissed with Mosaic hops for just a slight bit of floral flavor, ultimately leading to a modern form of a traditional beer perfect for any weekend gathering. Union Anthem is most definitely a beer meant to be enjoyed straight out of the can, straight out of the cooler. The cream ale is an American take on the classic German lager, but brewed with an ale yeast, which can be slightly fruitier than the traditional lager yeast. Drinking the beer ice cold will best mimic those clean, crisp lager flavors that we all love so much. The aroma on the beer is soft. There are hints of grandma’s biscuits or the doughy center of a fresh roll, touched with just a touch of wildflowers and perhaps a subtle zing of a lime tree. The flavor is smooth, crisp, refreshing, and just slightly bitter in the finish. It’s a simple beer, but perfect in its balance and restraint with just the right amount of carbonation to finish it off. Union Anthem is most definitely a weekend beer. It’s a wonderful alternative to some of the perhaps more famous canned beers for those of us just looking for something clean and refreshing on a warm day when a gaggle of your friends are coming by to watch the alma mater take on their arch rival. It’s clean taste pairs well with nearly anything, cooling the heat of a spicy bowl of nacho cheese or adding a nice cool element to a dinner table covered in grilled meats and picnic salads. Pick up a six pack and sing out a song of freedom.
