    All about Tuborg

Tuborg, pronounced like “too-borg,” is a popular beer from Copenhagen. The brand is notable for its classic European-style brewing flavor as well as its quirky anecdotes. The unique name comes from the owner of the original brewing site, Jonas Thues, a Danish innkeeper known for the epic parties thrown in his tiny pub during the late 19th century. The name Tuborg combines the surname “Thues” and the Danish word for castle, “borg.” The brand was founded by Danish entrepreneur Philip W. Heyman, a man known for pushing boundaries. Things got taken to the extreme when it came to promoting Tuborg beer; things got taken to the extreme — in 1888, a gigantic beer bottle was constructed as a landmark near the original brewery. While the bottle could fit over a million beer bottles, it actually serves as a viewing tower.

Tuborg beers contain malted barley, hops, yeast, water and a “dash of magic.” Tuborg makes a bottom-fermented pilsner-style beer called Tuborg Green. Refreshing, crisp and bubbly, the beer contains 4.6% and roughly 200 calories a pint. Tuborg Rå (Tuborg Raw) is a similar product but uses all organic ingredients and maintains an unfiltered, hazy quality. These beers are excellent when paired with a hardy meal and a football match.

Each bottle of Tuborg includes one of Heyman’s lifelong mottos on the label: “Stilstand er tilbagegang” or “Staying still is going backward.” Nevertheless, the company stays true to its boundary-pushing nature and has found ways to adapt and remain open for well over a century.
