All about Stella Artois
Stella Artois is a crisp, refreshing lager with a long history and a fancy reputation. Like many other household brews, Stella Artois is part of the Anheuser-Busch InBev mega-family. Stella, Italian for “star,” was originally brewed in Belgium in 1926. Stella Artois was once just a seasonal favorite, released to locals at Christmas time (hence the name). Today, the brand’s staple lager is the top-selling beer in Belgium and one of the leaders in the United Kingdom as well.
From a signature, gold-rimmed goblet to its regal red and gold label, Stella Artois has a massive reach around the world. In the U.S., the classic lager has a 5% ABV and is typically sold in a bright green bottle before being expertly poured into its frosty goblet. However, a shiny aluminum bottle was launched to support the company’s “Open for Good” campaign, which donated some of its profits to independent restaurants. You can also find alternatives to the classic lager, including the summer seasonal Solstice Lager, a dry European-style cider and the Midnight Lager with intriguing notes of espresso and smoke.
Production of Stella within the U.S. started recently, and under the supervision of the Belgian brewmasters, will be more readily available as a draught pour soon. The U.S. recipe stays true to the original, employing Saaz hops with malted barley and water.
