Nine-pins is a quirky Dutch version of bowling played since medieval times. In the short story "Rip Van Winkle," a lazy ne'er-do-well falls asleep for 20 years after drinking too much hard cider and playing a too-lively game of nine-pins.
Fortunately, you don't need to be well-read to enjoy some of the finest hard cider in the world. Nine Pin Ciderworks was established in downtown Albany, New York, thanks to the efforts of Alejandro del Peral. After sampling a local hard cider in 2010, he instantly fell in love, became an apprentice, and perfected his own blend by 2013.
Alejandro's dad had always taught his family a love of nature, exemplified by his painting of a 32-foot-tall rose next to what would eventually become his son's cider production facility. Alejandro's clan was raised on a small local farm, which had a heavy influence on how his cider would be produced. Nine Pin uses only apples and fruit sourced from the nearby Hudson Valley and Capital Region.
The result? An off-dry cider that's fresh and robust. Drizly carries a full line of Nine Pin ciders that range from the classic to the sublime. Among them are ginger cider, peach tea cider, vanilla chai and raspberry. Getting your daily serving of fruit has never been easier — or tastier!
