Bell's Brewery got its start with a 15-gallon soup kettle and countless homebrew experiments. Founder Larry Bell started The Kalamazoo Brewing Company in 1983 as a homebrewing supply shop. By 1985, he was making his own beer and producing 135 barrels annually. Those initial batches were brewed in his soup kettle and fermented in open, plastic wrap-covered fermenters. The company changed its name to Bell's Brewery in 2005 and is located on Kalamazoo Avenue next to its namesake pub, Bell's Eccentric Cafe.

The American Homebrewer's Association ranked Bell's Brewery's Two Hearted Ale the second-best beer in America for six consecutive years. In 2017, the AHA dubbed Two Hearted Ale the best beer in the United States. The beer is perfectly balanced with hop aromas, malt and fruity characteristics ranging from grapefruit to pine.
