    All about Badass

In 2009, feeling patriotic and a tad rebellious after a European company purchased Anheuser-Busch, American rock ’n’ roll legend Kid Rock decided to make his own beer: Badass American Lager. Evoking the classic American style of beloved brands like Budweiser and Coors, Badass is pale, smooth and full of corn and hops. Pair its bald eagle-emblazoned label with an American flag bikini and you’re the star of your next barbecue.

Badass American Lager limits its distribution to Michigan, specifically Detroit. Kid Rock, né Robert James Ritchie, grew up in a small Motor City suburb. Hoping to stimulate the craft brew economy in his hometown, Kid Rock launched the American Badass Beer Company alongside his “Born Free” album. Badass beer premiered at county fairs and local concerts, but it soon was featured on national platforms like The Daily Show and Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.

In 2015, Badass was relaunched by a Detroit-based beer-making co-op called Brew Detroit, which offered small, craft breweries a space to create and launch their brands. Kid Rock used his celebrity to expand Detroit’s local beer industry, a city that has since become a destination for beer aficionados.
