Not all quarter-life crises result in award-winning breweries, but co-founder Adam Avery turned his passion for homebrewing into a thriving business after partnering with his father, co-founder Larry Avery. Since 1993, Avery Brewing has been making beer with just four key ingredients: water, grain, hops and yeast.
In just 25 years, this brewery has achieved notable firsts, including producing Colorado's first packaged IPA, and even won awards, such as the Great American Beer Festival gold medal. Avery Brewing moved into a sleek new facility in 2015, but it's still based in beer-friendly Boulder.
With a dozen year-round brews and several series of seasonal beers, Avery has an impressive lineup for beer lovers to peruse. Get started with the Avery IPA, a classic version with citrus and floral notes, or take it up a notch with the White Rascal, a Belgian-style white ale with notes of coriander and orange peel.
Sour beer fans won't want to miss the Raspberry, Apricot or Ginger Sour from the brewery's Botanicals & Barrels series. For a brew that's even more unique, watch for the latest releases from the Barrel Aged Series, which boasts surprising flavors and beers that don't fit neatly into a single category.
