The beer that helped put San Diego IPA’s on the map. Our Big Eye IPA is a big hoppy brew, thanks to the abundance of American Columbus and Centennial varieties we use to flavor and dry hop. While the English originally added extra hops to preserve their beers for sea travel, we do it for the love of all that bold, intense flavor that makes India Pale Ale one of our favorite styles.

Ballast Point Big Eye IPA is a bold and hoppy 7% IPA that relies on American Columbus and Centennial hops during flavor and dry hop additions during the brewing process. Big Eye IPA on the nose offers dense pine, grapefruit, herbal, with flavors of lush pine and resin with caramel and brown sugar malt supporting the mid-palate and a medium plus piney and herbal bitterness.

Opening a home brew shop in 1992, founder Jack White homebrewed with Pete A'Hearn in college and later, Yuseff Cherney, who was the home brew shop's first employee. The three opened a brewery behind the shop in 1996, the birth of Ballast Point. In 2004, the brewery outgrew its “back room" location and moved to Scripps Ranch. While continuing to brew and developing recipes at the original home brew location, Ballast Point also added a third location in 2013 in Little Italy, San Diego. Consistently expanding into 2014, Ballast Point opened a 107,000 square foot brewery in Miramar, San Diego. And in 2015, Ballast Point Brewing Company was famously bought by Constellation Brands (producer and marketer of beer, wine, and spirits, including Corona, Modelo Especial, and Pacifico) for $1 billion.

For food pairing, Ballast Point recommends Big Eye IPA with Hawaiian-style tuna poke, Panang curry, and cured meats.
